LISA Q. MATHEWS prepped for her writing career by answering ads in the back of her mom’s magazines (“We’re Looking for People to Write Children’s Books!”). Years later she learned that most writers need day jobs. She found a great one: editing Nancy Drew mysteries for a big New York publisher. Of course, then she realized that dream publishing jobs also required moonlighting to pay the rent, so she lined up freelance gigs and wrote for kids’ series such as Mary-Kate & Ashley and The Lizzie McGuire Mysteries. She eventually became Executive Editor at Random House and the mom of three amazing kids.
Lisa now writes mysteries for grownups. And yep, she also has a day job, as Editor-in-Chief of Kill Your Darlings Editing Services. Lisa lives with her family and pets in New Hampshire, where she mainlines Dunkin' iced tea and directs an amusing black-fly circus as a seasonal hobby. Her short story "Fly Me to the Morgue" in the Malice Domestic anthology Mystery Most Diabolical (Wildside Press) was recently nominated for an Agatha Award for Best Mystery Short Story. THE JIG IS UP, the first book of the brand-new SHAMROCK SISTERS MYSTERIES, set in an Irish-themed town in Massachusetts, will soon be published by Crooked Lane Books. Lisa is represented by Stephany Evans of Ayesha Pande Literary.
